Selai Design offers handcrafted bags and clothing that have been made by women in Kabul, Afghanistan. These women participate in a craft program managed by the Afghan Women Support (AWS), which has been supporting women in Afghanistan for years.
The program enables them to improve their education, giving them new, hopeful perspectives
and providing them with a stable income.
This financial stability not only secures their immediate needs, but also enhances their self-confidence and independence, enabling them to create a better future.
Working closely with renowned designers from Afghanistan who generously share their expertise, they learn the intricacies of design, sewing, and embellishment.
Together, with a lot of heart, joy, and dedication, they create unique, Afghan-inspired products infused with modern Western aesthetics.
Even though the meetings have to be planned carefully and very discreetly, these courageous women always find a way to get together regularly to weave, embroider, and sew.
Obtaining the necessary materials is a challenge, and the selection is not very extensive... which makes it all the more astonishing what wonderful products they create time and again with all their hearts!
The women don't just sew fabrics, they weave dreams of a self-determined, free, and secure future into them. Each piece is unique, tells their story, and carries their hope of soon being able to take their future into their own hands.
It takes over 10 hours to embroider and sew a T-shirt, and just as long to weave and sew a small wallet.
With just 100 dollars, a woman can pay for food and rent for a month. Every dollar counts! With your purchase, you are supporting these courageous, strong women and giving them the hope they so urgently need. All proceeds from sales go directly to the women in Afghanistan.
